View Full Version : OT (M1903) Is this right
This is the thumb safety (slide lock) from a Colt pocket hammerless (Model M) made in 1913.

Brunner talks about diamond and square cross hatching, but I don't see any references to serations. It this original, or, a so-so reproduction?
Thanks

This is a 1914 manufactured Colt Pocket Model Hammerless .32. The small parts are fire blued and the pistol is finished in the mirror charcoal blue of that era. I believe your safety lock is an aftermarket.

...a gun or a time when tons of aftermarket parts were available. I'd be more inclined to say a Colt part that fell on the floor and missed the 2nd half of the cross hatch cutting , then found and tossed into the bin of finished ones by error.
Chris
I should have also mentioned that the grips were "after market" reproductions.

Hmmm? I suppose when it fell on the floor, they not only didn't complete the checkering process, but also failed to finish the piece properly.:icon_rolleyes:
Aftermarket part...definitely. There were actually inspectors at Colt. They rejected things much less significant than this all the time.

The pistol appears to have been refinished as well.
