In an earlier thread,I asked for a SRS check on a M96 SRC that I bought on GB. I was suspicious of the nice stock on a worn barrel/receiver...especially when I was told that the receiver was made in 1897 , not 1896 to match the cartouche on the stock. My suspicions were further aroused when I noticed the wear pattern on the barrel bluing just forward of the band and forearm. It appeared that the carbine had spent a long time in a longer stock with a barrel band and further confirmed that the stock now on it was not the original stock.

On a hunch,I compared my Krag 99C to this carbine and took pictures of the result. Apparently , the 96SRC was upgraded to the long stock at rebuild and much later, someone(NOT the Government) put it back in the short style stock. I think I will keep it until I find a better one.

My Krag is the Norwegian variety, so nearly all of which I read here does not apply to my rifle. But I do so enjoy learning about the subtle differences between the US varieties. Perhaps when I am finally well-versed enough I will pick up a US Krag.
