View Full Version : CMP RM1Special
Sent off my paperwork this weekend for the CMP RM1Special Garand. The waiting period can be as long as 180 days according to the website. While I wait, what is the best book or manual to read as a gas gun new guy? Up to now I have only owned bolt rifles. Not so much the history, as I have that covered, but actual handing, maintenance, troubleshooting, etc?

The TM's and FM's (Technical and Field Manuals) for the M1 are a very good resource for those purposes. (And very authoritative too!;))
I've posted several to my MediaFire page, download whatever you're interested in....LavaTech's MediaFire eBooks page (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=a16576be687a6f628066db0503cf4f2ce02c9ce8 eb76851a)

FM-23-5 is the M-1 manual. The most complete ones are the 1950's versions, but the earliest are the most valuable.
ROTCM 145-1 INDIVIDUAL WEAPONS AND MARKSMANSHIP is not bad, good basic coverage of the M-1 and other weapons up through the M-16 depending on the edition you get.
Theoretically you should be getting a match grade JCG legal rifle. I have yet to hear how these things shoot but I really want one.
Found FM-23-5 in PDF format online and downloaded. LavaTech - will have to wait until I'm home from work to view the offerings on your link since my Mac here disallows viewing it for some reason (security?). I see also that the CMP has "How Tos" on their website.
Thank you both. I'm a novice to Garands, so expect to view many queries from me in the not-so-distant future.
Duff's books are good too.

The CMP specials are very very nice.
I bought a similar one from Orion 7, a select grade , built as new, new wood and match barrel.
Get your order in on some hxp ammo as well. Max allotment per year now is 10 cans. Restarts Jan 2010. So order up your 10 cans if you can.
