The 9MM 147 gr. JHP @ 1032 f/s is equal to a .45 ACP 230 gr JHP @ 875 f/s what's so sorry about that?????

Exitwounds,

Where did you get that information concerning the 147grn subsonic 9mm versus the .45ACP load? Do you really think that a difference of 162fps makes up for 83 grns of additional bullet weight and 40% more frontal area?

Given a choice I'll take the .45. :63:

Given the choice, .45 would be at the top of my list...but down here, 9mm is cheaper, more available to get.

Hey, she is still a 1911 ! not a .45 but enough good for me ! :-)

The information came from the FBI Academy using one cubic foot of ballistic gelatine at 25 yards.

Depth of penetration in ballistic gelatin is only one aspect of bullet performance. You also have to look at the final diameter of the expanded projectile and the permanent wound channel that it makes. I won't argue that the 9mm will not kill you but I maintain that the .45ACP will always do a better job, under equal conditions. Mass and frontal area are constant, velocity is relevant to distance.

Scott, I'm an old .45 guy from way back, and believe bigger is better. I was simply stating the 9mm is under estimated.
