I need to find a "rear sight elevation bar locking knob" for my 1898 Krag, and a gentleman on the Krag Collectors Association's forum indicated that the part is identical to the one that was used on the 1903 rod bayonet Springfield.
Can anyone here verify that this is correct? Thanks.

If you are talking about the model 1898 or 1902 sights, the slide screws are functionally the same but the 1903 knob is cut for a rimless cartridge and therefore looks a little different. Brophy states many were used on refurbished Krags after the 1905 sight replaced the 1903.
If you're looking for the slide binding screw for a 1901 sight, that's a different animal.

Thanks Parashooter. I failed to mention that this is for a 1901 sight. I really appreciate you setting me straight. S&S seems to have a reproduction for not much money, so maybe I'll pick up one of those while I look for the real thing.

The binding knob for an 03 Springfield, not the rod bayonet type, will work in a 1901 Krag sight. A friend just replaced his broken Krag binding knob with one. He had a watch repairman get the old one out. I've seen them for sale on ebay recently.
