View Full Version : McAnn Adjustable Gas Plug
So now that I have this thing, what do I do with it? The instructions say to adjust for accuracy, but all I shoot with my Garand are Coke cans and water jugs. I simply want to be able to shoot factory-loaded 180- or 150-grain cartridges without screwing up my rifle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Start without any vent screw in the McCann gas lock screw. Fire a round. If it doesn't cycle the action, put the largest vent screw in. Fire again. If the action doesn't complete a cycle, change to the next smaller vent size. Do this until the rifle action fully cycles. Fire a few more rounds to verify reliability. If the action still short cycles, change again to the next smaller vent.
I assume I would do that each time I changed to a different bullet weight or manufacturer and then record the vent sizes for each load?

Correct, which is why I recommend the Schuster nut - http://www.schustermfg.com
No vents to loose, all you need is 1 allen key to adjust for different loads.
Correct!
