Hey guys,

Have a Remington Rand 1944 pistol. Also have Clawson's expensive little book. Pretty sure this is an original untouched example. Mirror bore, HS marked barrel. I was lookin' for something to do so I broke the pistol out and researched the serial, 1,946,036. I know it's '44 manufacture but what month, couldn't find that?

Its been to the range a coupla' times. Funny, one time I showed it to the range master and another shooter asked "Are you really gonna' shoot that pistol". I said yea, I shoot what I collect.

Some not too much. I've put about three, four hundred WWII vintage rounds through it. Dirty and corrosive but I cleaned the pistol well after each shoot. No harm, it's deadly accurate and functions flawlessly.

All of the small parts are darker than the frame and slide, especially the bushing, it looks to be blued until ya' shine a cop light on it. Very dark park. Thoughts and comments appreciated...photos. One more thing, not ever sellin', but what does one go for in this condition? Bought it back in '98 for twelve, high back then but figured it had a future.

That's a fine looking Remington Rand. One thing seems certain, and that is they won't ever lose value. Particularly one as nice as that.

Well, It is a nice pistol but as far as losing value, keep shooting it ,especially with corrosive ammo, and get back to us with how much value you GAINED in a year or two. JMnot soHO. Nick

Well I think that is a really nice RR, I personally don't shoot my originals that much. I have a modern 1911A1 GI Springfield for that. I would be careful with the old Vet and I would not use the old ammo either. Beside some collectors are paying top dollar for original WW2/WW1 ammo. Of course, in the end it is your weapon, and you will do as you please. Just my opinion, hope this helps Thanks.

1,946,036 is believed to be November 1944 production. We use to use a windex saturated patch in the arms room when corrosive lots of ammo were used, bore cleaner alone was not enough to stop the corrosive effect. Always seemed to do the trick.

Nick,

You are right of course, haven't shot it in a few years. If I ever get the urge again won't shoot the old ammo. It's just gainin' value in the safe now. A Kimber .45 is my carry and shootin' iron. I mostly shoot rifles now.
