I took out my new S&W AR15 to shoot yesterday for the first time. I couldn't find much on zeroing in the rifle, so I started out at 100 yards with the rear sight set at center windage and zero elevation. The elevation didn't take too many "clicks" but the windage took a few more clicks. Of course, there was a wind blowing from my back and that might have thrown things off. I got so I was getting most of the shots in the black, although my groups left something to be desired. A nice-shooting rifle!! Now I won't look too stupid when I go shooting with my family on Sat. Got the pointy ends of the cartridges going the right way, too!! :D

My oldest daughter, an Army sergeant, arrived yesterday. I left my AR out after firing it, and suggested she might want to keep in practice by cleaning it for me. Somehow, she didn't think that funny!! :evil6:

You might try the following method for zero:

Using the A2 rear sight it works well. You can click to a battle sight setting or to a 100 yd setting etc.

I bookmarked the website and will refer to it soon! Thanks!

Now, to figure out where I'm going to get the money for a LOT more .223 ammunition!! :D

Took a return trip to the range yesterday (see the range report on my new .45 on the M1911 forum) and had the same results: Excellent at 100 yards. My friend, who is a "big caliber" guy, was equally impressed after firing a few rounds. At $869, I think I scored!! :D

Rick, I'm sure you will enjoy the AR15 - although it does not have the same history as an 03 or M1 they are lots of fun and do have their place. Now you have to start reloading to be able to shoot as much as you would like!
