Just bought a Moltby No.4 Mk.1 this afternoon. The buttstock is pieced at the heel and toe, and the fore-end has the "Dreaded Ishapore Screw". I put 20 rounds through it when I got it home, and it shoots about 3 1/2" at 100 yards. Not all that fantastic, but pretty good considering these 67 year-old eyes.
Anyway, I'm going to send the metal work off to Dean's Gun Restoration ("Life's Too Short To Shoot An Ugly Gun"), and would like to find a nice walnut stock set for it. I looked at Springfield Sporters web site, and found that they have beechwood stock sets for about $75, but would really prefer walnut.
Anybody out there have a reliable source for a walnut stock set for a No.4 Mk.1???????

"...Moltby..." Maltby.
Before you send it to Dean, check the head space(that should have been done before shooting it) and slug the bore. No point having a pretty rifle that is dangerous to shoot or has a shot out barrel. Enfield barrels can measure from .311" to .315" and still be considered ok. Over .315" it's shot out.
Gunparts lists some walnut stock parts. No full walnut sets though. They're mixing 'hardwood' and walnut butt stock in their 'sets' now. Don't even think about a magazine made by Pro-mag.

I checked the headspace before I shot it. I've been around the block a few times, and have been collecting and shooting milsurps long enough to know the drill. Haven't slugged the bore yet, but as I said in my post, if I can shoot a 3 1/2 inch group at 100 yards with the rifle, it's good enough for me.

"...good enough for me..." Good enough for deer or moose too.

"...good enough for me..." Good enough for deer or moose too.

But is it good enough for Moose and Squirrel?
