Hefights

When shooting my M39 at 200 with Bulgarian heavy ball and the original front sight, it was not a few inches off, but closer to 2 feet high. It was a while ago so I dont recall exact amount, but it was more than I wanted to play with Kentucky elevation. So, not to start this all over again, but I can always find a work around, adapt, improvise, & overcome, hold off, whatever it takes, because more than just being a soldier, I am also an ENGINEER soldier. However, I decided to make a personal choice to choose to get a tall sight. With the tall sight installed, and with my beloved shiney brass cased highly accurate mildly corrosive very uniform like new berdan primed unreloadable 1955 heavy ball yellow tip Bulgarian ammo, the rifle hits dead center at 200 with the rear sight set to 200, case closed. I put the fun, skill, and diversity back into it by shooting from various positions, ringing the gong, shooting at 300, and by beating my head against the wall continually trying numerous reloads that never shoot as well as the Bulgarian ammo. Soon I'll get some more diversity by getting a couple spam cans of 1980's russian, or Hungarian, and maybe some of that Yugo M30 heavy ball brass stuff.
Perhaps we aren't the only ones known to tinker with the M39 front sights. Supposedly, there is a number on the top of the barrel behind the front sight which is the height of the blade. This so the Finn armorers could check that snuffy was not changing the height. I cannot read the faint figures on my barrel, and dont have time to research the veracity or true application of this rumor.
Regarding the Tenn Gun Parts Web Site:
"LAST SITE UPDATE: FEBRUARY 20th, 2010
19 JUNE 2009....This is a part-time business for me. I run this business by myself... mostly on the weekends, which often causes me to get behind on shipping orders (most orders still ship in 7 to 10 days). I ship as fast as I can, however, delays in shipping of three to four weeks may be experienced on certain items. If you are in a great hurry to get your parts, I suggest that you order them elsewhere, however, I believe that the vast majority of my customers will agree that the higher quality of my parts when compared to other vendors makes it well worth the wait."
Once the owner asked me if I would sell for him at my local gun shows. I agreed, but never heard back from him. Worthy of note, I believe he took over operation of the venerable and highly authoritative web site "surplusrifle.com" when the founder had to give up due to illness. The sight he sent me was very high quality, well worth the wait. Lets hope he gets the parts business up and running. If he needs any help there are probably more than a few willing if it would be possible.
Personally, in lieu of a tall sight from Tenn Gun Parts, I would go with the MOJO peep sights. But the alternative resourcefully located by MJ1 with the fixed rear peep is intriging, if MG42 has any on hand or can get a production run anytime soon.
Yes I once had a little dust up with MJ1, but he is a regular contributor who comes to the forum with a BUNCH of cool toys and great pics, good ideas, and at the end of the day he was quite reconciliatory with me. So I guess we can just put up with his continual reference to our need to know our hold offs, or whatever.
