What would be a good price for a NOS cheek pad from the mid 70's?
or one from the 50's?

I am starting to collect the parts to outfit my CMP M1D

If the 70's version is USGI about $50-$75. An original GI 50's pad is $125-$175. Condition is the key.

I would say the early 50's pad would bring a premium over the later pads. From what I've observed the late 60-70 pads are not the quality of the earlier ones. The stitching is different, (no end loops), and they were left in a natural leather state having no leather preservative added and they were packaged flat.
The pad that came with my 1997 lottery, 1969 arsenal issued, had shunk apparently because of no leather dressing/preservative had to be stretched in order to get it to fit correctly on the stock.
As a guess, I would think an older pad would go about 25% more then the later one as it is more desirable.
From what I have seen, the avg prices for the early pads are running about $100-$125. Ray

Thanks Cecil and Rayg. Any ideas where to locate one? The ones on ebay seem very expensive 200+ for an early one.

Probably Cecils quotes are closer to what they are bringing. I was typing my response and did't see Cecils post.

From what I've seen since the CMP has started turning loose of the M1D rifles prices for the accessories have increased greatly. When they started selling the stripped barreled receivers parts kits about doubled and soon disappeared off the market.I expect the M1D stuff will too.

IMHO prices for all original accessories have increased a lot. I remember when plastic oiler and thong kits could be had for a few dollars with the thong and brush included, well not anymore and the nickle plated brass ones have gone throught the roof!!

Other accessories and accoutrements are just as bad,or maybe good if one is a seller and not a buyer.

LOL I'm to the point only under the threat of duress will I part with my spares because I know I can't replace them for anything close to what I paid.Like those nickel oilers you used to pick up for $3 each complete with thong and brush.

Your post got me looking around a bit, thanks. I saw afew on ebay, but I do wonder about this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/M1D-gar-1903-spring-sniper-M84-scope-cheec-pad-NOS-75-/120578303931?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1306e7bb . I know from experience and lessons learned, that a lot of NOS items, that come in plastic bags with a little typed labels are often fakes/reproductions. Also, the pictures don't show any of it well enough to tell, at least for me. I have a 1976 dated pad that came on my CMP M1D and a 1958 dated pad. I'll dig them out and post some pictures.

I've got a K Line laying around here somewhere. Couple of the grommets are missing but they can be replaced at a leather store and it would look good on a vintage rifle with some wear. PM or mail for more details.

Here in Texas a good condition K-line cheek pad will bring $350-$400. With grommets missing they're still $300 pieces. A '51-'52 cheek pad in nice condition is $200-$250. As I posted above the later dates bring less money. I recently sold some spare m-84's and still can't believe what I was offered. I would never have asked the price but when offered I'll definitely accept it.

Be careful buying NOS stuff off ebay. The later pads are hard to document. The most common fakes are 50's dated. Real 51 and 52 pads are a burnt orange color. (GO LONGHORNS) I just looked at a '58 pad I have and it is in a paper envelope dated '57 also the felt pads should be charcoal black felt.
