I have a 1899 receiver that has the lip guide broken. I do not know how to remove and replace this part. Is this difficult to do or is this a job for a gunsmith?
Thanks
what is a lip guide, excuse my ignorance, please
I believe the guide is held on by a small rivet that is peened over. Guides are available through S&S and shouldn't be a huge issue to replace if you have any mechanical skills. If you don't have the knack see your gunsmith.

I think he's talking about the little cartridge guide on the right rear of the magazine floor. If so, they're held in with a rivet headed pin. The bottom of said pin is sometimes hard to see on the bottom of the receiver. It goes all the way through the magazine spring housing. I've removed a few, it isn't hard. That'll vary as they've been in there over 100 years. I just took a look at a model 96 vs a 98, on the 96 it appears the pin was in there before the magazine spring housing was finished, and some of the pin has been ground away, so that it's half round. On a 98 it's completely round and easier to see. A person could make one of the guides pretty easily. If that's not what he means, sorry. The pic is of the 96 receiver, the bottom of the pin is very hard to see.
