Default shot my armalite ar10 today

first were with ball ammo, used federal m2 ball, shot okay, would have been okay for conventional GI use, but nothing to go hip hip hooray about, 3' groups at 100 best i could do with iron sights

shot 168 grain nosler, did quite well 1/2" groups at 100 yards, five shots into fifty cent piece with one flyer (me)

shot 168 grain sierra match kings not quiteas good as nosler, but 1 1/2" at 100

seemed to like the nosler better,, might want to try hornady Amax also

damn that spring is a noisy critter bank, then simultaneous kaching in the ear, got to get me one of the twang killers available

shot it at 300 yards with weaver 36T and it did quite well at 300, kept inside the 3" X ring with sling, i like that!!

You said you shot M2 ball, is it a 30-06???

I hear you about the spring noise. I get a little of that with any of my centerfire rifles that have a drive spring behind the bolt.

    boy i screwed that one up, i meant 80 m80 ball, it is fedXM762D 7.62 X 51 149 G FMJ
Screwed the pooch on that one, i was able to get 3k rounds of it a few years ago, and i use it for practice, but none of my 308 shoot it like they shoot match ammo,,,, my supermatch m1a at best on a good day is 2' groups, with 168gr hpbt it is sub minute, but the gi stuff is okay to shoot and brass is okay to load but wth, stuff is cheap

but damn if that spring is noisy

Is the spring noise like an M-16 or AR-15 but louder?

Is the noise coming from your recoil buffer assembly? If so, you might want to consider this buffer from Spikes Tactical:

    Spikes ST-T2 Buffer

Obviously I have one in my AR and the recoil is minimal and I've never noticed the typical "twang" of M-16/AR-15-type rifles.

No, I am not connected with Spikes (other than as a customer) and I have no financial connections either.
