    Default my " Pig"

I have added a few pics on other forums on this site and thought I would put a couple here. This was my M60 that I carried in Iraq in 05. It was a Springfield with a very low SN. I guessed that it was made in the 50's. I always wondered about its history and if it was used in Vietnam. Once it was blown out of the turret by an IED. Luckily it got stuck in an add on armor plate and I was able to reach down and get it and start firing it.

I had one of those on my M577 back in Desert Storm, 1991. Soon replaced it with an East German made PKM, cleaned up the pig, lubed it down, wrapped it in plastic and kept it in the track after that.

If I remember correctly, the M60 was a combination of a MG-42 with the bolt and piston of a Lewis gun. Unlike the 42, you needed an asbestos glove to change the barrel.

Actually my understanding is that the M60 is a combination of the feed fire control system and quick barrel change system of the MG42 and the gas system of the FG42 both somewhat modified of course. At least that was my understanding at the time I had to fool with them. Just from dealing with them I can definately see the MG 42 resemblance in the feed system.

That was the newest firearm that we had in our armory on the LST that I was on in 72-74.

Does the feed-guide attached work better than a C-Rat Can or an empty Grenade-can?

Does that say "Chinky" on on it? How did it get that nickname?
