    Default CA compliant mag release?!

How does one reload an AR15 if the mag is permanently installed in the lower? Remove the takedown pin & open the upper/lower like a double barrel shotgun & load from the top?

    MAG LOCK AR-15 BULLET BUTTON®

Hardcoat anodized aluminum replacement for factory magazine release button permanently retains the magazine in the lower receiver to conform with California Code of Regulations §978.20(a). Prevents rapid magazine removal, so your gun can meet the requirement for a permanent, non-detachable magazine.

Default Use a "tool" to remove the magazine

You can use a "tool" (i. e. a bullet tip) to press in the small button in the center of the device to remove the legally defined "permanently attached" magazine. Then you load your magazine as usual.

Since you have to use a "tool" (not just your finger) to remove the magazine, it qualifies as being permanently attached, hence is legal in California.

Oh! That make perfect sense! But what they actually mean is a semi-permanent slow release. Any semantics to keep the public safe.

"Any semantics to keep the public safe."

That's right. We're talking Kaleefornieaia. Where 'sounding good' and 'looking good' cover up a lot of bovine excrement. It's all about "feeling good".

    I lived there 1958-60 & even though I was young I noticed it was . . . different.

I wonder what the service rifle and high power shooters do with the rapid fire strings, or does Kalifornia allow extra time for mag change?

I was squadded with one of the California Grizzlies juniors last summer at Camp Perry. They use the "tool" button described above, can't remember if they get extra time but I doubt it. He said with practice it doesn't take much time. They had switched to normal buttons for Perry once they arrived.
