    Default T99 (pic heavy)

Answered an ad in the local "trader paper" for a "Japanese sniper rifle, rare". Ended up bringin' it home, anyway.

Couple of questions, if I may. #'s match on the bolt and safety, is there anywhere else I should look?

The stock cut at the wrist - would this be some kind of duffel cut? Anybody seen that before? It's solid, and the guy says he shot it alot.

Haven't cleaned the bore yet, but the rifling is very strong. Front sight and floorplate release painted red?

I believe the bi-pod is original. Anything you guys can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Series 21 Type 99 rifle mfg. at Kokura Arsenal.

Does the number on the root of the bolt handle match the number on the side of the receiver (1433)?

Looks like the "mum" has been defaced (chisel strike). --Jim

Yeah, #'s match. I think there's just a 433 on the bolt root and safety. I'll have to check later. Couldn't find any #'s on the extractor or bayo lug.

Pulled a bore snake through last night. Wow, it's amazing how nice those barrels can stay after so many years. If they only shot as good as they look!

Reason the bore is still nice has to do with the fact that the bore and bolt FACE are chrome plated!

The chrome on the bolt face is NOT polished to a high lustre, but it IS there! --Jim
