    Default Some Old Target Ammunition

I began shooting .22 competition about 1960 - hard to believe it has been nearly 50 years ago. I shot 3 position indoor in college (West Virginia University), worked as Rifle Counselor in two summer camps in New England for 10 years, shot prone and position competition for over 30 years and smallbore silhouette for some time.

I was cleaning out some of my old "stuff" recently and found where I had pitched odds and ends of boxes of .22 LR standard velocity and various grades of match. Thought some of you might like to see some of the "old timers" ammo that I shot over the years. Most all of this dates prior to 1990 when I more or less stopped shooting competition.

The PENNANT box and the STANDARD just above it were made by ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) in England. As I recall, they had some connection at the time with Kynoch and later Eley.

The box at the top marked .22 Long Rifle Standard was made in Yugoslavia and imported by Hansen Cartridge Company.

    Default Bayonetman--That RWS .22 stuff...

How good was that ammo. I recently picked up a couple bricks of it but have not tried it yet. It has a nickle case and is standard vel. It is not marked match like your other box. I was just wondering where in the chain this stuff was?

    Thanks for the pics.

Here's a box I found in the pocket of a shooting jacket I bought in an auction a few years ago. There are about 25 rounds inside which appear to be copper cased. The lead/lubrication has turned white. Any idea of when these were made?

Remington "Kleanbore Lubricated" was introduced in 1930 and packed in the 'dog bone'-so called because of the shape of the logo-box. R17L came in copper cases, copper washed cases, and finally, brass cases. The U.S. Government purchased it for training purposes. The box in question probably dates from the mid 1930s
