Nylon 77 mags will work in the .541-X? I've tried using other mags with a loop for the mag catch soldered to the mag body -- I didn't know there was any other mag with a catch like the 541.

Sorry guys. The magazines in question only work in the 581 and 541 models. Rick

No one seems interested in producing metal mags, just not enough interest (excpet a small handfull of us die-hards)

541/581 mag on left, 77 mag on right. The 77 mag works just as well, or maybe better!

Gentlemen, While the Nylon 77 and the 581/541 magazines look similar, Remington stocks them under 2 different part numbers. There has to be a reason for this situation. Looking the same does not always equate to functioning interchangeably. Rick

    Rick,

You are correct that the part # is different. Look @ my pic above. Notice the angled notch @ the top of the mag is a tad deeper on the 77 mag @ right? The 77 is a semi-auto. The deeper notch promotes better feeding on the semi-auto action. Since the 541, 541X, 581 are bolt guns, the 77 mag works perfect. A 541 mag mag not work well in a 77 though. The interchangeability only goes for the bolt guns.

    Best regards

There was a guy on rimfire central that claimed he was makeing metal magazines for 541/581mrifles,he got lots of orders. I don't know if he delivered any but he claimed to be makeing a run of 100 to test the market. A skilled person with a little silver solder and a file could do it, I'm not that person. Some of the 541's had match chambers, I would think that the cartridge would have to line up perfectly to feed right.

I've thought of soldering a catch loop on a different magazine, but been too lazy to try it.
