Rem 597 Volquartsen Hammer
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...ad.php?t=67173
Just installed a VQ hammer to reduce the terrible trigger pull in my Rem 597. Now trigger pull is sweet! Very little creep, lets off very light and crisp. It has improved accuracy. You can get the Volquartsen hammer for a Remington 597 at Midway for about $40.
Great link at Rimfire Central above shows how to do it. There are hollow plastic bushings each side of the cylindrical spring. Keep those bushings in place and insert hammer as shown, use a punch or allen wrench to allign the holes as shown, and tap pin back in.
I actually took the spring with bushings out of the housing after removing old hammer, keeping bushings in place on a table & with my fingers, inserted new hammer between spring and bushings in correct position, re-align holes up, then keeping alignment of holes as best you can, reinsert spring, bushings and hammer all back into the housing. Align the spring/bushing/hammer holes with housing holes and then tap the retaining pin back in. Ensure you have the two straight extensions of the spring on correct position as shown. Restore the linkage as shown if needed. Reinsert housing back in receiver and enjoy the greatly improved trigger!
