That's an interesting video because it looks like a local club firing Full Auto AK's under supervision of Russian Military personnel. C.J. Chivers remarks on this in his new book THE GUN, talking about how even after the fall of communism and the USSR, marksmanship training sponsored by the government with the AK remains popular. I believe I remember from old AMERICAN RIFLEMAN articles that the acronym for the Soviet version of the DCM/CMP was "DOSAAF" or "Voluntary Organization for Assistance of the Army, Navy, and Air Force". It would be interesting to know the details about these programs today.
The girl looks about 12-14. Our daughter's Russian friend says that children in the old USSR were taught AK mechanics in 8th grade including disassembly and assembly but did not actually fire the weapon. obviously some prelimiaries in single shot or semi auto fire would have been a good first step in this case.
"Gunny Highway" was right. It makes a distinctive sound when fired at you.
She's somebody's girlfriend, turned out to be a pretty hot date. I instinctively have to duck every time I watch it. The poor thing was obviously scared stiff and had no idea what would happen when she pulled the trigger. The "instructors" could use a little more instruction on safe instruction.
Just for kicks I looked DOSAAF up on the Internet. It still exists in Russia where for a few years after the fall of the USSR it went by the acronym POCTO but they have gone back to DOSAAF and it still means the "Voluntary Society for Assisting the Army, Navy, and Air Force." Ukraine also still has one. Couldn't find anything specific about what they shoot etc. or who gets to be in it. The great Facebook said it can be joined at age 14.
