Thread: "U.S. Property" burned into shotgun stocks.

  1. #1

Default "U.S. Property" burned into shotgun stocks.

Has anybody seen these "U.S. PROPERTY" stamps on left side of stock. Its about 2 5/8" long and 1/2" tall. I have a Stevens military contract M620A that has it, and I have seen a Winchester M37 and a Stevens M5100 dbl with it??
Is this stamp real or faked? TIA!!

Can you post a photo of the mark?

I've seen a 620 with a "US GOVT PROPERTY" and a round DAS mark. It was fake because the round DAS mark was never used on Military firearms.

Late in the National Match pistol program a rubber stamp was used to apply the DAS to the right rear of the receiver. The stamp appeared to be paint and easily came off, but this DAS stamp was will be found in both round and square type. A picture of this stamp is shown on page 28 in Jenkin's book on the NM pistols.

The Stevens riot pictured is an early one and appears to be original finish. If ordnance dictated that the receivers be marked US then why would they worry about the stocks? It is just my opinion but the stamp/branding iron shown is not even close, in font or style, to any other USP that I have ever observed on any other weapon.

I dont like that USP, it looks like someone was trying to enhance something, without knowing better

The receiver markings are absolutely correct. Note that it is probably not an original cyl choke, the early marked guns like that one that I have seen were usually procurement guns that were cut down, possibly by the military and possibly by the police.
I have seen Stevens single and double guns with the USP markings in the stock, which did not look anything at all like these. Neither of the other guns appears to be in any way US marked, so I suspect one of the fakers is at it again.
Too bad he did that to the stock of that riot gun, that is a legit gun.

And I think the three asterisks indicate IC choke.

Pure fantasy. A shame too, ruins otherwise nice looking shotguns in a feeble attempt to enhance their value.
