Default Anyone here have any experience with bean bag rounds?

I keep a loaded self defense pump shotgun both at the house (well hidden but easily accessible) and in my truck (for when I am out in the boonies planting or just enjoying my land).

Is it a bad idea survival wise to have the first one or two shells as non lethal beanbag rounds? Are these at all effective pain agents against a doped up adversary or through thick clothing?

personally think id rather keep live rounds. cause if I did have to use it, would rather not get sued for hurting the SOB with a bean bag later.

For home defense always use a factory lethal round. If you're justified in pulling the trigger then your life was in danger.
If all you want to do is shock someone, sic the dogs on them and hit 'em with a Louisville Slugger.

A beanbag is a momentary distraction and a welt on the skin (maybe a little more if you hit him right between the eyes). As in the above post if you absolutely have to shoot;make it count.

#1: You never mix lethal and non-lethal rounds in the same firearm.

#2: There is just as much liability, maybe more, in shooting someone with less lethal rounds, especially if you are not properly trained or certified to use them. For example, if you were to shoot a "doper" in the eye and blind them they would own you for life.

Default Good self-defense round for 12-guage shotgun

While double-ought (OO) is the traditional self-defense round, I was always taught that number 4 buck, which is smaller and has more pellets per round, is best overall for self-defense in a structure (house). HTH, Karl

Kragnut, I've dealt with them. NO, they would not be useful against the "doped up" individual. I will agree with the previous replies, if your life is in danger a lethal load would be best.

If you ever see footage of LE using bean bag rounds, they always have someone with lethal rounds backing them up, something most wouldn't have in a personal defense situation.
