    Default Help Identifying German? Scope

    Guys,

I've been having this old scope for many years and I'm not sure exactly what it is. It seems to be approx. 4X, single post reticle, elevation adjustment but no windage adjustment. There is what looks like a stylized G on the tube and a serial number 51218 on the turret. The scope is in excellent condition and has clear optics. It has a set of Redfield top screw rings.

Can anyone identify it and give an approximate value?

Several Pre-War German scopes have a similar appearance, to include Zeiss in a "Shooter's Bible Treasury". There are books about old gunsights, perhaps one of our members here can ID it. Interesting - the G should lead us somewhere. Anyone else hazard a guess? CC

Col. Colt & RSC, thanks for the reply. That will give me a starting point.

Any other members with reference material please speak up.

Google "Hensoldt" as well. Several scopes have a very similar profile to my eyes.

Try "Goerz" or some spelling variation while you're googling. I have seen a similar scope with a name similar to that in the misty fog of yesteryear.
