Default Question on number of parts

Anyone know the number of parts in a 1911?

I'm reading this article in the NRA publication, America's 1st Freedom. It's about the innovation of the firearm by Glock.

Part of the article says the Glock consists of approximately 30 parts versus nearly 200 parts for the 1911.

I can't come up with 200 parts for the 1911. Even if they meant the 80 series 1911A1 I don't remember that many parts.

    Maybe I'm wrong but ...

    Talking only the...

mainspring guide retaining pin , that little barrel on the side , the two pins and spring that go in it , mag body , follower , spring , baseplate , and 2 pins if used and it's (mags) loop if early.
I believe there is like 63 or 65 IIRC. What else?

they list 48. but didnt count all the grip screw bushings seperate, the only one i missed is the mainspring pin, that holds the spring assembly in the housing.
    minus the mag assembly.

Thanks. Lately, I've been kinda wore out but that remark in the article didn't sound right to me.

Maybe if they were refering to the processes involved in making each pistol it might be closer to the truth. Making the receiver must be more invovled with the Colt then the Glock that just comes out of a mold.

I prefer the 1911 over the Glock too.

I won't get into a direct comparison but the M1911 has two grips, four grip screws, and four bushings. The Glock has none of those. Also, does the original count include parts of the M1911 normally considered a part of a subassembly and not removable, like the sights, the spring tube, the grip screw bushings, and the lanyard loop?

Also, most parts diagrams of the Glock include the disassembled magazine, where those for the 1911 show the magazine as a single part, since parts are not normally available in military supply or from the manufacturer.

TM's usually show a partial exploded view with the sights, plunger tube, and ejector still attached, but were furnished as replacement parts. In a count of total parts they should be included.
In the case of the Springfield 1911, the front sight was an integral part of the slide, so it has one part less than all the other 1911 and 1911A1 pistols.

I don't think that adds up to an additional 150 parts. So, far we've come up with about 50. The author of the article said there were 200 parts.
