Picked up an AR carry handle scope at a gun show last year. It has COLT in thin letters, and "made in USA" under it. The reticule is an inverted post. The compensator, adjustments and mount work great, and the optics are clear. How scarce is it?

Is that scope 3x or 4x? Nick
I believe only the very early 3X scopes with the inverted post are marked made in USA. The others were made in Japan by Hakko.

I was told by Colt that they were also made by Tasco

The earlier scopes were made in Japan now they are China copies. My Delta Elite came with a Japanese Tasco scope but it is a 3X9.
Both of mine were made in Japan, Colt marked and 3x20 power. I think I remember[we all know how that goes] having an identical looking one some 25 years ago that was a 4x20 but the city is floriding the water and I might be halucinating[it sure spoils the Dickel!]! Seriously, anybody remember a 4X? Nick
Here is the instruction pamphlet for the 3x and 4x colt scopes:

Thanks gwp, so I'm not "losin' it" just yet! Nick
Just got it out again. There are no other markings on the scope but Colt, and in small letters Made in USA. It almost looks hand stamped. r/ George

Had a 3X on my M16A1 for years. loaned it to a Buck Sergeant for a public demonstration and never saw it again, or him. IIRC twas a nice little scope with few vices as a battle optic.
in 2000 my unit was OPFOR so we equipped the entire squad with chinese copies and tore the 27th Bde. a new one in 12 days of anarchy up at drum. we were popping bluefor like there was no limit.
