The U.S. markings are fake.
Wow, that is amazing. Not by any stretch of the imagination could you say that shot gun is correct.
There is a fat guy on Long Island who is known to do those fakes. He usually puts fake marks on the stock as well.
That is definitely a fake!

There are very few 870 in service and most in use by the Navy. Mossbergs& stevens were most comman in the 1960,70,80,s. Sure ther were some Itahca,s and left over 97s,M12,s win. m1200 to. but 870 was the least used. Most 870,s are faked.
In the 70's I never saw anything but an 870's. In the mid 80's saw some Mossberg's. Jarheads were partial to the 870 until the 590 came along.

saw them in use by the navy on the pier at the trident base on Hoods Canal several years ago. didnt get a close look though.
