Timney trigger for M91/30

I'm looking at getting one of the Timney triggers for my 91/30. Is it pretty much a straight drop in with the original stock? Is it much of an improvement over the standard trigger?

I've found the trigger pulls on these rifles to vary from pretty good to awful. Timney makes a good trigger and I am sure it will be a nice improvement over Russian/Soviet GI even if the rifle has a good military trigger. It also comes with a thumb safety that is actually practical instead of the barely usable one on the Mosin-Nagant design.

The bad news is the trigger ($90.00 to $100.00) costs about as much as a fresh from rebuild like new Mosin-Nagant rifle. If you're going to use your 91/30 for any kind of hunting I think just the user friendly safety would probably make it a worthwhile investment though.

I forgot one thing re your OP. The new trigger will, at least, require some stock inletting to accomodate the safety lever on the Timney trigger.

Personally, I would try loosening the screw that holds the trigger spring and see how you like that. It can be lightened to the point of being dangerous then tightened to where you want it, it's free, and if you don't like it, you can retighten the screw and pretend you never tried it.

I can't justify doubling the expense of the whole rifle. I am sure the Timney will be better but it just doesn't seem worth it to me.

There's nothing wrong with the Mosin Nagant safety as long as you have a tree or bumper to hook your come-along to.

Who uses a safety? If you use common sense and follow the rules of gun safety (except the one about safeties), you shouldn't need one. But yes, the Nagant safety is generally awful. Can you imagine being in Finland wearing mittens and trying to work one of those !$$@% things?
