Default When was the USMC MC1 sniper fielded by the Marines >>>>>>

Did they get used in Vietnam at all or did they collect dust and get replaced by bolt guns?

Good question Johnny. My understanding is that they were too late for Korea but were surplused before Vietnam. None of the contemporary articles on USMC snipers i have found mention them at all. Just the M1D, various Winchester Model 70's and after '67, the Remington 700's. Interestingly Kollmorgen Optical morphed into the Redfield line in the early 60's so in that respect there may be a connection between the MC1 scope and the one later selected for the Remington 700.

Thanks for the reply Accurange i had forgotten the article. The USMC went into Lebanon (the first time) in 1958 which fits. The Panama expedition to scourge Noriega was much later - During the GHW Bush administration. Im wondering if Major Land was thinking of the landing in the Dominican Republic in 1965?

I never saw a M1C in Vietnam in 68-69, all the snipers attached to 3/26 had M40s.. there may have been some there, but i didn't see any, not even in the hands of the ARVN troops.
