Redfield 24x with duplex reticle marked USMC property??????

There is a local auction advertizing a 24x Redfield with a duplex reticle marked USMC property. They further state that it is probably one of approx. 1500 made for the Corp. Does anyone want to speculate on the validity of this scope? It's on proxibid, Linkous auctioneers if you want to see the pictures.

What possible use would the Corps have for 1500 24X scopes of any brand? I use a Lyman 25X for varmint hunting, and finding your target in that scope is time consuming to say the least. They certainly didn't buy 1500 scopes for the rifle teams, because that number of scopes would have equipped them into about the year 3000. I seriously doubt their authenticity.

I am no expert, but I have read every book and document I could get my hands on, and cruised the Marine records at Quantico in my research on A5 scopes, and I have never seen any mention of 24X Redfield scopes anywhere. What screws the pooch for me is the quantity. It is absurd on its face.

Reads more like something the Army might have done for its smallbore shooters (any sight prone), but I'd be skeptical either way. What is it, a Redfield 6400? The 3200 was a pretty good smallbore scope but I unloaded the only 6400 (I think it was a 24x duplex) I ever had quicker than a bass boat.
