Default Problem with AK Scope Mount

I put a POSP scope on my AK-74 a few years ago and have had problems with the mount loosening up after 10 or 20 rounds.

For some reason, the scope mount will not slide all the way forward on the receiver rail. My AK has a Nodak Spud riveted receiver.

I've adjusted the locking lever, but I think the problem is either in the mount or the receiver rail.

Have any of you experienced similar problems?

No, but I put my scope on my PSL with a large hammer and the locking bar is unnecessary as I doubt I will ever be able to remove the thing. Sounds like the dovetail in your rail or your mount is loose and at a minimum the mount needs to be moved forward until seated properly. Is there something obstructing it? or does it seem to get too tight to slide all the way forward.

If it is obstructed, you can try peening the dovetail by denting the edge with a metal punch but I'd save that for later with the hope of better info/advice.

The mount seems like it's hitting an obstruction, but I can't find anything wrong with the rail. I'm thinking about taking a rubber mallet to it. I've removed the scope from the mount so I can mess with it. I like the scope and want to keep it on the rifle. I need to because the front iron sight is drifted as far left as it can go. Came like that from the distributor. When the scope stay put, the rifle is accurate as hell.

Losen the adjusting nut until the mount slides onto the rail easily. Once that's accomplished tighten mount a click or two at a time using the adjusting nut until the mount won't slide on the rail. Back off one click, slide the mount on the rail and close the locking lever. Most AK side rails are different from Druganov/PSL 54 rails and can take a little jimmying to get the mount all the way forward. If you have a problem look up the K-VAR mount it has instructions on it and works exactly the same way as the PSOP mount.

By the way, for optical sights that don't come with their own mount like a PSOP, a K-VAR side mount comes under the heading of "not cheap but worth it." I absolutely love mine.

I think I found the problem. There's a burr on the lower rail of the mount. Probably caused by the scope and mount moving on recoil. I think I can file it off and still leave the mount useable. Yeah, with 20-20 hindsight I should have gone with a detachable scope.
