Hi friends,
I already made a similar post on the Krag Collector forum regarding this. But if you have not seen it and might help some I would sure appreciate.
I am trying to help my cousin determin if he might have a real carbine. I know enough about this stuff to be dangerous, but think he might have one.
Its a model 1894 (that does not say model) and the s/n is 2883.
The barrel looks like it might be a 22" barrel. I'm not sure where to measure to. But to bolt opening in the reciever it measures 22 5/16" from the muzzle.
The crown of the muzzle and front sight look un messed with, like originals as I have seen on rifles.
When he first got this gun years ago it has a "C" marked rear sight on it. But the cut-out in the HG did not fit the sight so he changed the site to one that did. He was not aware the rarity of carbines. Though he still has the original sight somewhere.
Also, there is no recess in the main stock for a rear sling swivel as found in rifles. Except the is no sign of any inlets for the saddle ring mount, or cartouches.
I know if a carbine this would be fairly rare? But is there anyway I can tell for sure.
I could send some pics if it would help? What should I show?
Unless there is no use? That it is for sure a rifle?
Am I missing something???
Thanks all in advance,
Brad
