Default Mag pouch for 20 rd mags.

Have you ever seen one of these? Canvas pouch to hold three 20 round M16 magazines.

It is marked; Case small arms, ammunition M16A1 with NSN numbers.

I got it from my brother with three Colt, 20 Round magazines. One of which is full of LC 65 5.56 ammo.

Did mention it's canvas and not nylon?

That is the M1956 20rd M16A1 Magazine pouch. It will accomadate 4 magazines. It's similiar to the M1956 Universal Small Arms Ammunition Pouch used with the M14 but shorter. It looks like the DSA number indicates a 1968 contract date.

I have one on my old cartridge belt that I wear when I'm in the woods in unfamiliar territory. That pouch holds a lot of survival goodies

Had 2 issued at Hood in 1982, later on wrangled some of the Nylon 20 rd pouches out of the supply clerk. When I got to the Guard I got one M14 and one of these issued.

Those were the type we used in Vietnam with our 20 rd magazines.
