Heck of a nice guy!
Brother-in-law dropped by today. GAVE me a Springfield M2! (His wife is not pro-gun). I'd been pestering him on and off to sell it to me, but he insisted on just giving it to me.
Background on the rifle. My father-in-law was assigned to the Pualoa Rifle Range on Oahu in the early 60's. According to his son, he purchased the Springfield M2 (serial 6378) for the use of his two sons.
The underside of the stock has a drawing number of D28225. On the cap of the pistol grip is marked "M2". Upper bolt root is marked "M2". Underside of root is marked "F". There are no other markings on the stock. The bolt is marked "M2" and has the rifle serial number electo-penciled on it. According to Brophy, the bolt has the 3rd type (hex head) headspace adjustment screw. The barrel is dated 12-33, with a blade front sight and has "Long Rifle Cartage Only" stamped on the left rear side, forward of the receiver. No magazines with the weapon - (I ordered two M2 repo's locally). Although I see no rebuild marks on the stock, I assume it was rebuilt at one time, seeing as the interior bolt recesses are not 'in the white'.
Maybe I should go out tonight and buy a lottery ticket!
