    Default Japanese T44

Several months ago I bought this from a friend that runs a pawn shop. Apparently someone had pawned it and never came back. I wasn't that familiar with it, but it looked nice, with a very nice bore and bluing. The stock has the usual dings, but is solid with no cracks. Came with a sling.

Alas, the mum has been ground.

Almost all the parts except the receiver match. The bolt, extractor, bayo hinge, floorplate, bolt release, and some of the sight parts all have a character followed by 81. The receiver is numbered differently...odd

There were serial numbers and "assembly" numbers. Did you check the buttstock to see if the cleaning rods are in the trap door?

    Thanks, Guamsst.

I didn't know that the early T44's were matching based on assembly numbers, rather than the serial number. All the numbers on the bolt, extractor, bayonet hinge, bolt release, rear sight are "h 8 1" (the "h" isn't really an "h", just resembles one). I kinda hate to take the thing apart to verify the receiver. Hard to believe that it would be different than all the other numbers.

I wouldn't pull it apart as you stated, chances are it's all correct. Did you open the trap door in the buttstock yet?

I looked inside the trap door using a flash light and noticed the two small holes for the cleaning rods, but alas...no rods.

Oh well, I never found any either, but maybe, some day.
