Default Garand Serial Number List XLS format, Rev 14

    New News:

Yet another ISP switch here folks....I'm sorry this isn't as easy as "clicking the link and starting a download" like it has been in the past. Google Docs does not display the spreadsheet correctly (there appx 5000 entries now) so you should download it to view it correctly.

    https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B9i...Z01saFB6Z2RUdw

From the Menu, you will have to go File -> Download (I just tried using CRTL +S like the pull-down menu says....it does not work for me....sorry) to download the spreadsheet onto your computer. Sorry this has become so complicated, but the idiots at "Keep and Share" have embedded an advertisement in order for people to publicly download things now. ISP Fail....again.

Here's a screenshot for those of you who aren't sure what I mean by File -> Download....

    Old News:

Well THAT was annoying. On 12/6/11 my ISP decided you yank our web-spaces. "Didn't you receive the notice?", said Cox Communications. "What @#$%ing notice and where my @#$%ing web page?", said I.

Anyways, I have new location for the files...unless they go under, change their rules, start charging money, etc.... Here's the new link.

Make CERTAIN you follow the cut-and-paste format listed below! Otherwise you're just wastin' your time.

Dunno why, but Google Docs does not display this Excel spreadsheet correctly (it skips entries). Use Microsoft Excel or the Microsoft Excel Viewer (free) from the Microsoft site located here....

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=10

Or LibreOffice has a Spreadsheet function as well (for free) which is what I use to do my cut-and-paste actually, then convert to the Excel format.

    http://www.libreoffice.org/download

Text that has been turned green has been entered. Do not change the color of your text, it'll mess things up.

Just watch your spacing (i.e. there should be NO spaces anywhere near a comma) and put a suffix on your username (i.e. mdoerner @ CSP or mdoerner @ CMP, depending on how you sent me the data). Do not use the color GREEN in your posts, that for me and you so you know whether your data got into the list or not.

Valid abbreviations for manufacturer (make) - SA, WRA, HRA, IHC, BMB, and PB. Valid abbreviations for source - CMP, DCM, and Pvt Purch. (i.e. don't get creative here)

Some of you have asked, "Why should I put my number in this list, you from the gubernment or some other nefarious organization after my gun??!" Short Answer: Nope. This list was originally conceived by someone else, who wanted to duplicate Scott Duff's data page examples for public viewing. This would allow easy access to new data on Danish, Greek, and any other variant not covered in any of Duff's material. Then that site got hacked bad, and the database couldn't be repaired. Someone on the CMP forum was kind enough to post the output text before the site was shut down.

So what is the purpose of this list now? I see two reasons 1.) See if you hit the S/N lottery (i.e. a S/N next to yours making a consecutive pair) and 2.) if you see a S/N you'd like to learn more about, you can PM the owner here on the CSP board, if that alias is the one used here. Hopefully we'll get a better idea of what was Greek, Danish, in Museums, Demilled/Destroyed, etc. to see "what's left" after the entire Garand production run. OK, 'nuff said.

For new entries, from now on, the fields are to be delimited with COMMAS, NOT SPACES.... Here are some examples....

    Serial_number,Owner,Source,Make,Notes

    2264738,mdoerner @ CSP,CMP,SA,VAR Barrel 3-66
    2431541,mdoerner @ CSP,CMP,WRA,Greek Return Rifle – Rebarreled to .308 Winchester
    5880066,mdoerner @ CSP,CMP,SA,BBL 5-55 SA Greek Return Rifle

00339988,I Have Way Way Way Too Many Spaces In My Alias,CMP,BMB,General Patton's PERSONAL Freakin' Garand

All of the above listed are in an acceptable, correct format. 5 data fields separated with 4 commas.

(But please, don't add a SA,**INC.**receiver to the list, they're commercial and don't mean anything in the context of this listing)

DO NOT USE MORE THAN 4 COMMAS PER DATA STRING**(or else)

For now, if your M1 has a SUFFIX in the S/N, please put that in the notes, NOT in the serial number field, as it plays heck with the sort filters.

Also, I have added known serial numbers from GCA Journals Volumes 22 thru [current volume] (sorry, that's all that I got.) If you have earlier issues, I consider those published S/N's fair game. Those S/N will be attributed to GCA Journal, not an individual (kinda like getting a museum piece's S/N.) Also, if you know of a Garand in a museum, grab it's S/N and let's get it on the list.

But please, do not enter someone else's S/N even if you see it clearly on a post. I want this to be voluntary and public information. If they want it in the list, let the owner do it. Also, clipping the last digits on your S/N means I can't put it in the list. Following the incorrect data format keeps you out of the list too. If you don't want it seen on the internet, but want it in the list, PM me.

I apologize guys....this so called "Internet Service Provider" now is imbedding a forced advertisement to get to the download. I'll switch here if I can get time to do so. I'm traveling out of town starting tomorrow so I may not get this done today......Idiots. All I can say is don't use "Keep and Share" for anything....

PS Let me know if the Google Docs thing is too complicated.....I'm running out of ideas here. All the "free" web spaces imbed advertising, and I can't simply have a link to the file on the internet anywhere. Idiots.

Gettin' back to reality here....Looks like no issues then? OK, I'll keep things with Google Docs then....unless they change their policy.

What do you mean? There's one spreadsheet with appx 5000 entries, going up to the 6.1 mil s/n range + prototypes. You're not viewing this in Google Docs, right?
