Default New Colt "Piston Carbine" Monolithic Upper - 6940P now shipping from Hartford!

Colt first offered the US Military a Piston system AR back in the 1960's, but the Army did not see a need at that time for the original M16. Times have changed , ARs have gotten shorter and deployments are now in dust and sand, not jungle.

Now, it seems, everyone has else jumped on the AR piston bandwagon - and so Colt is now marketing a new design piston carbine, the new Model 6940P. You may argue the need for a piston, but you can get one from Colt now, if that's what you want. And since it was likely developed as a deployable, up to date weapon for the US Military as it's first consideration - it should be a good one. If adopted, it will become the new Standard in ARs.

DSG Arms, among others, shows it on their website at $1825.00. (I don't know them, or promote them, just listing the site for a photo.) I'm sure they will be hard to get initially, but you can add it to your want list, anyway! CC

Something they should have made from the start.

They designed it and offered a piston system to the Army during Vietnam - and the US Army said "No", it's unnecessary. And generally, the Army has been right about that. Until you shorten the gun from 20" to 14.5", and use full auto a lot, and then throw in a lot of sand.........

It took Colt 20 years to get the Military to accept that a stronger extractor spring was a good idea. If your primary customer won't accept your changes, you kind of have to build what they want....... Getting Any change through the Government Bureaucracy is not a simple task. You are under a firm contract - and until the contract specs are changed, you are obligated to follow them. CC
