This is my dad. Taken in Greece 1946. My father served in the Western desert and Italy. His arms of choice were the Bren and Thompson but when sent to Greece he gets a SMLE.

Very nice picture. Thanks for sharing your dad with us.

Great photo, much appreciated.
I have photos of my father in Korea. I didn't know he was younger than me!

Ha. I know what you mean J.B. Pleased to say that dad is still very much with us. He always has and still can our shoot me and you should see him charm the ladies.
Yes Ken. Dad was in the British army. The Royal Fusiliers. City of London regiment. He is Anglo Italian.
He was born in London and able to speak Italian. A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of accompanying him and some other veterans back to Monte Casino. A very moving experience.
When I was younger dad never spoke about his war other then the odd amusing story. He is just a little less reluctant now. Open a second bottle of red and he may even bring out his recent x-rays that show a few old shell fragments still in his chest. A reluctant soldier, my dad was up the sharp end and fought well rising to the rank of sergeant. I love his quote.
“During the war I fought like hell. But they still made me go”
I am very proud of my dad.
Picture is of dad and I with Monte Casino behind us.
Thank you

Barry, that's a great shot. I should get a more recent photo of my father. Hadn't thought of it until I saw yours. Thanks.
I'll need to wait as he's doing his annual rail trip around the country now.
