Default correct gas plug for M1?

Have a springfield in the 2.83m s/n range and was wondering what the correct gas plug is?

solid single slot with wear and finish similar to that of the gas cylinder and the gas cylinder lock

Excuse me, but the poppet style valve came into use in the 2.4 million serial range. The single slot went out between Nov 1943 and Jan 1944.

I have a well used but original SA 2.77 mil with a SA 4-44 bbl with the single slot gas cylinder screw

Duff's WW2 book page 169 states that SA manufactured both the solid and poppet gas cylinder screw\
until the end of F/Y 1945.

So, then a P hex may be correct for my serial range?

P Hex (Elastic) is what's on mine (2.89) with a narrow base transverse saw-cut gas cyl amd bevel lock, but it went thru Red River or San Antonio in '51 so I can't say they're orig to the rifle.

Duffs WW2 book has data sheets on 2466215 and 2720806, both w/ poppet valve type lock screw.

Look at it this way, whatever is in there now is correct. Parts is parts. I have the single slot but my rifle was made in February of 42
