    Default 6.5 Grendel?

Anyone able to give me feedback on ARs using 6.5 Grendel? A friend wants me to build an AR for him and I have been interested in the 6.5 for a while now. I mentioned it to him and qouted a price on ammo and he was cool with ammo cost.

    My questions are,

is it as accurate as advertised?

how is the knockdown power on animals?

how available is the ammo at your average gunshop?

I have been shooting the Grendel for a few years now and really enjoy it. With any good quality barrel it will shoot great.

The Grendel is an improved PPC so it has inherited accuracy from a proven cartridge. Easily my most accurate auto-loader.

The only critters I have shoot with it have been coyotes and it tears them up. Not a good choice if you are fur hunting. With a barnes TTSX bullet it shouldn't have nay trouble with bigger game.

I never seen ammo for it at a gunshop. I strictly handload for it so I cant commit on if you can purchase ammo online or not.

Ok, I know you can get it online easily. Just curious if it is something you could pick up if you run out or if you always have to plan ahead. Ammo availability is not a big factor.

None of the gun shops in my area stock the Grendel but 6.8 SPL and 300 BLK are available.

I thought 6.8 would be good but it is tailored for short barrels and close quarters.

I'd love to have a Beowulf and a Grendel but I don't have the budget to support a Norse themed gun collection...LOL

I have no experience with the 6.8 but from what I have read, it is a capable hunting round from 0.-300yds with any length barrel. Having said that I think your buddy is making a good choice with the Grendel as long he knows that he will have to plan to stock up on ammo when it is available.

Try this website. I have a Grendel but haven't shot it much. Magazines may be a small problem. A lot of people hunt with them including elk.

The Grendel is designed to fit the confines of the standard AR mag, it will just hold a few less. Hopefully all mags will feed well with it.

As to stocking up, Cheaper than dirt carries the ammo and being only 150mi away we basically get overnight shipping free so planning ahead won't take much. They aren't the cheapest allot of the time but the shipping for me makes them a very good deal. Sportsmansguide also processes and ships quickly but usually takes 3-4days of travel.

when the prices get down to 223 levels, I'll think about it. If they ever do, that is.
