Thread: Just aquired M1 Carbine

    Default Just aquired M1 Carbine

While looking for an M1 for our Marine Corps League Color Guard today, I found a nice M1 Carbine, and got it for $500 (he wanted 650) When I got it home I took a good look at it and am almost certain it is all original! I know this is not the norm, but would like some expert input on this very nice gun.

IBM CORP on reciever and barrel, very sharp and clear.
    SER# 3889xxxx (post WWII)
    Push button safety
    Mag release stamped: PR-B
    Front sight stamped: SI-B
Rear sight stamped: (left) S, (right) GE-O Rear sight has a flip peep.
SCB stamped inside of rear sling slot, also on upper handguard.
Crossed cannon in circle stamped on right side of stock.
    Trigger assy stamped: BE-B
    Hammer stamped: BE-B
    Slide: 'C'
    Recoil plate stamped: PR-B
Bolt Lug stamped: H (G under it) opposite lug: AOB
UNDER BUTTPLATE, stamped into stock: 29 (above screw hole) 3 below hole.
Grease tube and applicator intact, sling appears (?) to be original issue green (very faded) MIL snap and buckle.

The stock in in really nice condition, beautyfull walnut, no cracks or cuts, very slight dings, Slight darkening around grip and around front of foregrip/handguard. Buttplate fits perfectly, tight with no wiggle. Buttplate shows almost no wear, all checkering intact.

The only problem with the gun is slight surface rust/discoloration on the barrel and front sling eye. Internally there is no sign of corrosion, rust or even carbon!

Anyone know if this is an original, if so an educated guess at it's value? Can post a pic or two if needed.

    Thanks for the help!

I think you have one too many X's in your ser. #. I.B.M. numbers were from 3,651,520 through 4,009,999. There were no post war I.B.M.'s made. Besides that, YOU GOT THE DEAL OF THE YEAR. Way to go Marine.. Bob.

Ding Ding Ding Ding you got the prize. don't worry about the patina on the barrel light oil and a bronze brush will clean it up.

Anyone have an idea of the value of this peach?

Prob not going to sell it, but I am curious.

Still can't believe it's a complete peice! I guess I have to take down the other one, and see where it stands as well.

    Thanks guys!

Your serial number is less than 4000 away from one of my IBMs.Does it have a bayonet lug or just a barrel band?Whats the markings on the barrel band? You stole it thats for sure.I am sure you will have many private offers but just in parts it may be worth upwards of 1000.00.Some pics would be great..Yours was made maybe around April 44,IBM was done with them in May 44 sometime..Thanks

    Carbineone,

Thanks for that info! Can't believe I fell into it! Been too busy this AM to take the other one down, but I will.

I took some pics and will get them uploaded sometime in the next day or so, can't find the darn cable to U/L them!

As far as I could tell, there are NO markings of any kind on the barrel band. No bayonet lug. The surface rust on the barrel is also present on the band, not in bad shape though.

    Thanks!

Default Photos of the M1 I found yesterday.

Here are a few photos of the M1 I found yesterday. Sorry, I'm not the best photographer!

Sure hope I did this right!
