I bought a Nagoya, series 6, ground but matching at a gun show. Got it home and took it apart to do the usual inspection and cleaning. That's when I discovered it was duffle-cut. I still see the little weasel I bought it from at gun shows. I got it at a reasonable price, which is why I didn't get too upset about it. If I look at weasel's guns for sale I ask him "what kind of a surprise am I going to find on this one". He could have told me about the cut. I probably would have bought it anyway because the price was right. He's just the kind of guy that personal honesty and integrity is a real challenge for him.

The repair worked out fine, and was a good learning experience. As my "gun show partner" said, "it's part of the history of that rifle".

If I have to take it apart to find out there is a problem, I don't blame the seller unless it is something they obviously had to know about. Like a missing firing pin on a gun they said was a "Good shooter"....LOL

My Toyo Kogyo Series 31 that I'm repairing the duffle cut on this weekend was purchased from a collector who was more into Garands, and only bought it because he thought it was cool to have... Said he never even fired it, and was in the process of selling off his non Garand collection. I don't think he knew about the cut... but who is to know for sure.

They are still fun to have around though!!!

I just tell people what's wrong with a gun if I know, and I price accordingly. It causes problems sometimes as honesty confuses people. In the long run though, I get lots of repeat business and some people come to the gunshows looking for me specifically. Honesty is a big issue on both sides. Some folks buy guns and misrepresent their bad purchase as a bad sale and never talk to the seller. It hurts gunshows in the long run, not just one seller.
