Saw one at the club today. When were these made? Or maybe an aftermarket stock?
He said the rifle came from a gun show, not the CMP.

fred, amer.black walnut was std on m1917s and p14s. english blk wal nut was a replacement wood on the p14.
Could it be a replacement made by one of the many countries that had 1917s during and after WWII?

Several years ago Numrich was selling New Old Stock birch stocks and handguards. Very nice stuff. Appeared to be US made, probably for WWII refurbs.
Enfield, everything else is just a rifle. Unless it's a Garand.
Long pig, it's what's for Dinner!
In high school I had a 17 Enfield, came full military, with a blonde stock, acquired about 1965. I would doubt anyone was putting replacement stocks on them back then. Somewhere I have some pictures of one of my ROTC friends posing with that gun.
i have a GI issue Birch stock for a 1917..likely a replacement.. as well as a few birch handguards.

Thanks for all the info. Next time I see the rifle, I'll look for stamps on the wood and also import stamps and update here.
