Just a quick question - did the CMP Greek return M1903's have import marks on them? If so, where, and what?
Thanks.

No, they did not have import marks. They were returned to the US Military. The weapons that pass thru importers hands ( Classic Arms for example) will receive import stamps.
Not "import marks" per se as you would find on a rifle brought in by a private importer. Some of them did bear some characteristics that can be associated with a side trip through the Greek army. Those that I'm familiar with are:
1. Pinned floorplates (often with a large "B" stamped into them)
2. Characteristic "creative" woodworking - they used a lot of fairly crude biscuits to repair damaged wood
3. metal with the typically dark black Greek refinishing
Many that I saw at the North Store, however, showed none of these traits. Others might have demonstrated just one or two. Is there a specific reason you ask?
We confide in our strength without boasting of it; we respect that of others, without fearing it.” -Thomas Jefferson, 1793
I was just wondering if the SA I bought recently in the USA was a true Greek return, or possibly a barrelled action someone finished up with Greek parts.
The barrelled action shows NO sign of Greek refinish, and nor did the triggerguard. The TG WAS pinned though, and the floorplate DID have the B. The bolt also had EP scribbled serial on the back of the handle, and of course, no import markings.
Ah well, this is good really.
Anyway, it is a Low Number SA with the Hatcher Hole - possible USMC rifle at one stage?
It could be, ive seen a few with both greek and USMC traits. Whats the barrel date?
SA 4-18. Receiver serial is 731830 (SA 1917). Parkerised - no Greek blue.
I have the SRS books incoming, Ill see if your numbers in them when they get here.

It's not - alreay asked here, and Herschel said it does not show. Wondering though about any serial either side or around it.
I've thrown away two stocks with the biscuits. They are sturdy enough but will not take a stain, then they look even worse. Must be made of a harder wood.
No biscuit repairs in the grasping groove S stock it comes with. Cartouches still visible too.
