Newest to join the collection, Type 99, ground mum, all matching with staked screws, no wings, monopod, dust cover or cleaning rod, I picked it up for $150.
I can't make out the series symbol,

If I had to guess, I would say Nagoya Arsenal, series 3. You can compare your symbols on this web site: http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/japanese_markings.html.

Need a better pic of the series mark and preferably right side up. I tried to save it and rotate but it was very stretched after I saved it.
I own firearms not to fight against my government, but to ensure I will not have to.
strange, it is right side up on my screen, I was thinking it was a series 3, but the stamp is not very clear. When were the wings and monopod deleted ? there are no marks on the stock that match a mono pod ever being installed.
Looks like a Series 3 to me... I think the monopods were still being used into the later series models. The anti aircraft wings were only on the first couplle series, as was the chrome lining in the bore. The action covers were used until much later, but usually were removed by the solder carrying the gun because they were noisy. I have a Toyo Kogyo Arsenal Series 31, and it has the Chrome lined bore, anti aircraft wings, and the whole shebang! It also has a full mum with a cross strike and a duffle cut stock (repaired recently) indicating that it was carried back by a GI from WWII.
