I recently ran across this PH5B sight which to my untrained eye appears to be "new in box". Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet...
This should fit a 1917 rifle with a little jiggering

You know it is a funny old world. That is the exact same sight that I am trying to remove from my P14. (See P14 gift thread). The installation instructions on the side of your box will be a great help to me. Thanks to you I have discovered that no permanent alterations are made to the P14 to fit the P.H. sight.
I must say that the sight is an impressive piece of engineering. I bet it would cost a fair bit to make today. I guess the calibrations will make little difference be it .3006 or .303.

You're both lucky dogs. All I have is the matching PH front sight cover.

Obama. A lifetime of affirmative action gone wrong.
Now thats the funny bit. On three of my P14's I have that sight and one on my M1917. (Kept all the original bits including the apetures for the dial sight.)
Oh by the way, its rather obviousl what to do with your sight.![]()
We have an Antique Arms club meeting tomorrow.(Sunday) I’ll put out a few feelers for a P14 sight. You did the right thing hanging on to your originals John. Just sorry some past owner of this rifle did not do the same.

Thanks, guys.
I've got a small collection of P-14's and 1917's and am planning on setting one of each up as a "match rifle". I've got another PH5B sight which I got sometime back for next to nothing because it wasn't working. I goofed around with it unsuccessfully and finally shipped it to Fulton's of Bisley at the Bisley ranges in the UK. They overhauled it and sent it back in perfect working order.
Also have a AG Parker 3/53 sight that I could use.
I'm a little reluctant to use a "NIB" Parker sight on this project...it is just so pristine. I guess that is why I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.
that like buying a new car and not driving it. Using it will not decrease the value. Just keep the box in a safe place. In any case it has been on a rifle before you got it, judging by the condition of the screw slots that someone used a 39cent hardware store screwdriver on them
Everything you say is true.
Let me ask you something, John. What kind of sight do your "match rifles" have up front? I would love to get some kind of tunnel style front sight for my 1917/P-14's. I rarely see them.
Thanks

The six P14's and the M1917 all have the original front sights. However some of my other enfields have A.J. Parker or Parker-Hale globe front sights or sight hoods. And please don't ask for pics as I never learned how to post them![]()
