Default Chuck in Denver, help please

Just picked up a Remington plugged P-17...By measure the plug is 3 3/4 inch long...The chamber end of the plug has the appearance of the end of a threaded rod...The good news, there is no weld marks.. the outside of the barrel is pristine....The bad news is the barrel is filled with kroil oil, it is standing muzzle up, and no kroil oil is leaking past the plug....Can the barrel and the receiver be saved...Thank you for your help....

im gonna say..nope...the drill rifle 17 that i got had a nice JA barrel, and wasnt welded to the receiver, the screws were welded to the guard, i got the plug out, to find they drilled the chamber so the plug would fit snug...i kept the barrel, and someday, i may open it up to .300 Mag..
new barrel will cure your problem

Chuck, Thank you for your response....Did you drill out the plug?...My bolt has a drop of weld on the firing pin hole, none on the guard screws..The R stock is in very good condition....Thanks again...regards

Chuck, this might be a really dumb suggestion, but . . .

There's a possibility that the metal of the barrel and the metal of the pug have slightly different coefficients of expansion. What might happen if he lets the BR spend the night in a freezer?

maybe...but doubt it..the one that was in mine was pretty tight..i still have it someplace..even if you get it out, chances of saving the barrel are pretty slim.
the only Drill rifles that iv saved...one that was welded to the reciever, but wasnt plugged..and one that was full of some type of epoxy..
a few guys have got the plugs out and only to find the chamber was damaged beyond repair.
Criterian barrels are first rate all the way.
i remember , after i removed the barrel, i tried to bore through the plug with my lathe...no way, it was heat treated steel.. tried a few types of tools, nothing even made a mark on it,..not even a carbide drill
