First off, let me thank John Beard again for identifying and supplying information to me on this rifle. He did this several years ago on the "old" Jouster without the benefit of photos. The cartouche on this rifle is a JLH over 1918 in a box. The barrel assembly is a rust blued 3-18 RIA; sights are also Rock Island. Both the 1908 SA receiver and bolt both have been refinished in the early black park. The triggerguard and floor plate are rust blue. The stock has a very small "s" on the tip and the inletting for the sight base shows that it originally had the strap type base (1907 or prior). It was somewhat crudely routed out for the solid base. It also had recoil bolts added, the sides of the stock in that area scraped and the high wood sides lowered. Buttplate is the fine checkered from 1910-1917. A repair piece from another stock was also spliced in and pinned on the right side of the receiver. The repair has warped slightly over the years; decades of living in one of the driest states in the Union will do that. All in all, one of my favorite rifles.
