Default Newly Aquired Trap Door Needing Info

Hello I am a new member from Kansas City and have never really collected antique rifles until a couple days ago when I happen to run into someone needing cash and me being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I purchased a 1873 Trap Door That may be a real Carbine but unsure the serial # is 80171 and for some reason the info I've come across doesn't seem to include this serial number range. I contacted the trap door collector site with the number and was told that only 1 other 8XXXX serial number has ever been claimed so how would a rookie like me go about finding out the particulars on such an item? Any help would be appreciated. I also purchased a burnside carbine but have little info on it as well. I paid only 400 for both so even if they end up as wallhangers im really not hurt but I would like to trace some history if possible. Thanks GRANT

No carbines anywhere close to that number in the Springfield Research Data, so it's most likely a cut down rifle. Pictures are a must so that the experts can see what you have.
