    Default Worth $700.00 ?

    MARKED COLT MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY & UNITED STATES PROPERTY + SEMI-AUTO 45ACP PISTOL + 2-MAGS
    FIVE DIGIT SERIAL # 27XXX
    MFG. 1913, PAT. DATES ON PISTOL ARE: 4/20/1897, 9/9/1902, 12/19/1905, 2/14/1911

Seller originally wanted $900.00 but I talked him down to $700.00 I hate the plating, but the pistol seems to have most of it's contours underneath.

Being that the pistol has been refinished there is no collector value remaining. For shooting/conversation piece $700 would be the top end. There again, shooting modern loads in that old war horse may lead to eventually something breaking or becoming damaged. This is due to the metal of that day not being what the strength of the metal being used on modern firearms is today. Weigh it back and forth on what you want it for. If you want a military pistol just for show and not much shooting ANDddddd you already have $700, saving a few more hundred would put in the Remington Rand 1911a1 WW2 neighborhood. Just my .02 .

Because you say you hate the plating, I'd recommend you look for something else. $700 isn't low enough to make the "ugly" go away when you don't like something.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of stripping the plating and restoring, but I might be happier with one of the Colt 01911 or 01918 models that I can enjoy at the range.

Maybe just the photograph, but the lettering appears to be buffed really bad. If it had been refinished in phosphate, it would not have been buffed, but the nickel plating requires buffing. The fibers of the buffing wheel run down in the lettering, washing it out. You might not be pleased with restoration if the lettering is washed out.

Might also mention that some come out with a funky color after having the nickel removed and phosphate finished.

Thanks again Johnny, John and Scott. I bought a NIB Colt ANVIII 1911 today. I took it, My 1944 Remington Rand and 1911 AO to the range today. I figured if I didn't shoot it today that it would get locked in the safe and never see the light of day.

I let my 11 year old son do most of the shooting. The Remington Rand was the best shooting and functioning of the three.

The new Colt 1911 only had 3 FTF's in the 100 rounds that I put through her. Not bad, right out of the blue box.

Now the AO...... it has taken almost 500 rounds to settle her down, but she has gotten a lot better than previously. The upside of all the FTF's, they taught me how to clear the jams fast and re chamber.

The AO is my daily carry.
