I'm looking for a person with a lot of experience repairing cracked stocks. I could probably do it myself but would rather just pay someone else and get a better job. Anybody know such a person?

While I've not used weither of these gentlemen, I know from the posts on these boards that they have been doing excellent stock repairs for some time. I'm sure that others on the forum who have had experience with either of them will concur.

Although I haven't had any work done by Rick, I've seen a lot of his work and it is very good. He is also very helpful if you want to attempt the work yourself. He has helped me out on several projects and with his help, the results have been very good. He is usually very busy so don't be surprised if it takes him a while. The ol' stock Doc is as good as the come.
I hope that Rick takes the time to write a book about all the various US Gov't stocks & their inspectors cartouches before he passes.......... He has twice kept me from wasting serious money on flat out Bogus m1 Garand stocks.........for free, the only pay he wanted was a Thank you...........so thank you again Rick........

+1 on Rick. He's done two stocks for me. One, as it came from the CMP looked like it had been run over with a truck on a gravel road. I thought it was toast. Now one of the best looking stocks I have.

Rick did a Garand stock for me a few years ago. And he also identified a Winchester stock stamped with a GAW cartouche. He work is excellent. I would go to no one else.
A couple of years ago I sent off a totally destroyed NFR stock. It was in TWO(2) pieces with finger splints and numerous small bits of wood. I took the stock off of a rifle and ended up with the 2 pieces. I sent it to Rick to see what he could do IF ANYTHING. I really thought it was firewood. When the stock came back to me I couldn't find the break at all even though I knew where it was. Rick told me he also had to put 2 pins in the stock to hold it together. I could not find them either. He is a true MASTER at this type of work.
You kids make me want to crythanks for all the kind words and happy so many are happy. As for the book, for now you will have to get Bruce Canfield's next one coming out possibly in January which I helped with some stock information. I kept allot for myself if I print one but was very happy to help Bruce out a little.
ifrarrow wrote me and I answered him. I even wrote him back again but he posted on another board that he found someone to do the work. I actually am thinking it was a set up to get anothers name out there but it didn't work. I promised him a good repair and cheap but again he didn't even say no thanks.
I see this allot as a way to advertise for some who need work. I personally am swamped but people are accepting waits up to a year. It kills me but I am still not retired and working my yard and taking care of family slows me a bit also. Thanks again guys. Rick B
